What to Include on Your Tournament Event Page

A tournament event page should let a coach decide whether the event fits and let a supporter understand how to attend. Put the decision-making facts before promotional language. Treat the page as the current reference for the event, not a poster that becomes outdated as soon as it is shared.

Answer the basic questions first

Lead with the event name, sport, dates, venue, location, and intended divisions. Distinguish arrival, doors-open, and first-game times. Explain whether the listing is for team entry, spectator admission, or both. When an event uses an external ticket provider, make the destination clear so visitors know where purchase terms and support apply.

Explain the competition promise

State the format, expected games, team capacity, eligibility requirements, and the process that confirms a place. Include entry deadlines and the adopted approach to withdrawals or cancellation. If some details depend on the final field, say which ones and when they will be confirmed. Avoid promising an exact schedule before you have the accepted teams and venue hours.

Make the next step obvious

Use descriptive links such as Register your team or View spectator admission. Keep requirements close to the relevant action. Include an organizer contact for unresolved questions and link to the latest schedule when it is ready. Check the page on a phone: long images with tiny embedded text are a poor substitute for readable event details.

Maintain one source of truth

Assign an owner to update the page when a venue, deadline, or schedule changes. Add a visible updated date for material information. Review links after making edits and ask someone unfamiliar with the event to explain what they believe they are buying or entering. Their interpretation is a useful check on ambiguous language.

A practical example

Instead of Entry: $250, write Team entry: $250 per team; registration closes on the stated date; acceptance follows the published confirmation process. Then describe spectator admission separately. Specific wording prevents a family from confusing a team fee with a pass to watch.

Your working checklist

  • Dates, venue, divisions and format.
  • Separate team entry and spectator admission instructions.
  • Clear requirements, deadlines and contact route.
  • Current schedule link and change owner.
